In 1997, after a stint at a growing Melbourne makeup brand to earn his makeup stripes, Dean was catapulted to the role of Global Premier Makeup Artist for a leading New York based cosmetic company. In this impressiveposition, Dean was fast-tracked to an international level, which enabled him to showcase his unique skills in the US, London, Europe and Asia markets. His most recent appointment is to Dr Lewinn’s as Skin Perfect Brand Ambassador, a makeup range launched in August 2012.
For the past five years, Dean has also been working with the biggest brands in the business. Dean has been the makeup director for the shows of world-leading hair brands Redken, Matrix, Kerastase and L’Oreal Professionnel. In addition, Dean has had a longstanding relationship with David Jones, where he has directed the makeup for the department store’s seasonal fashion shows for the past fifteen seasons.
Dean has also developed a great relationship with the Melbourne Herald Sun and Sunday Herald Sun newspapers, working on their editorial photo shoots and writes a “How To” column for the Saturday Herald Sun.
Over his career, Dean has worked his makeup magic on some of the world’s most beautiful and famous faces. Amongst the A-listers who’ve had Dean’s special treatment include Elizabeth Hurley, Delta Goodrem, Kristy Hinze, Miranda Kerr, Megan Gale, Carolyn Murphy and a mix of local celebrities such as Lauren Phillips, Jesinta Campbell, Jo Stanley, Jessica Mc Namee and Magda Szbanski just to name a few.
With such zeal for makeup, it was only a matter of time before Dean decided to turn his talents to create a “how to” makeup class for the everyday women. Inspired by women’s thirst for real and practical makeup knowledge, and the belief that all women should be able to create beautiful makeup for themselves, Master Makeup was born.
With education as the key focus and armed with he’s goal to simplify the way a woman looks at her makeup application and products, Dean saw a need for a range of “basic” products or the “must have” products, every woman needed to transform and simplify her makeup application to achieve a flawless and professional look every time.
Two years later, Dean is excited to launch his first range of makeup artist brushes under his brand Master Makeup By Dean Nixon, a high end, prestige quality range with a very affordable price tag, tailored to simplify makeup application with a set of 6 brushes comprising a Kabuki Brush, Foundation Brush, Concealer Brush, Eyeshadow Brush, Blending Brush and Eyeliner Brush.
Today, Dean spends his time working with his freelance clients, writing his “how to” column at The Herald Sun and working on developing the next range of products for Master Makeup By Dean Nixon.
